Can anyone remember using real eel skin (usually for dropper flies) to make seatrout flies?

I remember fishing the border Esk at Langholm for a few years and looking back through the record book many spring salmon were caught on 'leather eels'

Hardy's did a leather "Eel" also, it was two piece, with side by side strips of leather and a brass head with vanes, as i remember...Oh, and it was mounted with two trebles..
I have never seen "Eel" skin used as a lure for sea trout... Eel skins were however, used by the medical profession as strapping for sprains etc....They were dried, and when wanted , soaked, wrapped and allowed to dry again, shrinking tight as they did.
I have seen dried fish skin used as lures in sea fishing ??? ...

Si......
