Good Fines on the Usk
Hi all good news the two guys I caught at U.L.F fishery on the Usk last year have been dealt with

HI I've just returned from France to the news that Michael Chevrier and Clive Ward of Cwmbran were in Newport Magistrates Court last Friday, 7 March, and pleaded guilty to the charges brought by Natural Resources Wales for fishing illegally for salmon at Upper Llangybi on the Usk on 10 August last year. I haven't seen any press release but I understand from NRW that:

Each was fined £600 for the offence under Schedule 1 of the Theft Act (fishing without permission), required to pay £250 in costs to NRW, and a £60 victim surcharge.

Clive Ward was also fined £150 for fishing for salmon while only having a NRW rod licence for trout & coarse fish (S.27 of Salmon & Freshwater Fisheries Act)

So the fines and costs totaled £910 for Mr. Chevrier and £1060 for Clive Ward.

This is an exceptionally good result, especially for a guilty plea, and I have little doubt that it will act as a deterrent not only to these persistent individuals but to others who have been poaching our and other Usk fisheries in recent years.

Particular thanks and congratulations are due to the enforcement and legal officers of Natural Resources Wales who compiled and presented the evidence, to those who provided witness statements, and to the Gwent Police for responding to my request for assistance.
