1 foot rise on the Elwy after recent rain, so I went out with the salmon flies to the middle Elwy. Decent colour, a bit too reddish for my liking, but certainly fishable.

No sign of salmon, only a few greedy trout showing interest in the flies. Another 14 days to catch a salmon, fly only from 1st October.

Saw Mr Heron and Mr Kingfisher, so there must be a few fish about.
There has to be a good day or two amongst those 14 remaining! Keep at it, I’m sure you’ll be rewarded.

Well today was pretty good! Popped out for an hour in the afternoon to the Clwyd Junction with the switch rod and salmon flies. Didn't see any salmon but I caught this lovely coloured sea trout, about 4.5lb and my best of the season. Took a 1" tube, can't remember the name, bit like a Willie Gunn but no black in the wing.
I think it must have been getting ready to run up because it took in fast water where the Elwy comes in.
