One of 4 fish at Testwood last night. I also lost 5! I had a similar experience at Woodmill last time out and I’m not sure why I’m losing so many fish! It’s evidently a slow season there so far.

Me and a friend are looking to fish the Dee for Grayling in early November and will be staying at the Hand Hotel in Llangollen. We’ve never fished it before and would welcome any advice in terms of best beats to try, locations of good pools and runs etc. Alwyn

When using these plastic slipstream tubes, do you guys insert your hook into the end of the tube as shown here? Do you get issues of it levering the hook out of the fish? Or do you add some silicone tubing like with an ally tube? Do you trim the end burr off before adding the tubing?

I started using the John Gray needle tubes last year and found them to be pretty successful. They’re also lovely to tie with. I’ve just tied this batch on 1.5mm diameter tubes, 30, 35 and 40mm lengths. I’ll start on some shorter lengths next.

3 of us fished Testwood last night. An incredible night and we ended up with 22 fish between us. Most were 2lb and there were two pools that seemed to be stuffed with eager 2lbers. we had a couple of better ones, the best of which is below - an amazing fighter that took to the air several times.
