Without sounding pessimistic, but does anyone know how many anglers fish for sea trout and salmon in Wales? If most clubs are in anyway like the club I belong to it's always the same faces you see on the river bank, although the club membership might be in triple figures the actual core members who fish say more than twice a week you can probably count on two hands and hopefull one foot. Those keen enought to be out more than three times a week could probably be counted on one hand.
I know Highplains personally and if I give only 10% back to fishing to what Highplains has given then I will be a very happy fisherman. So Highplains don't be too disappointed of 521 people signing the perdition out of how many? If it's a 1000 Seatrout / salmon anglers then that would be a pretty good result considering the turn outs in local elections etc. If it's out of 10,000 then your right it is pathetic.
When ever I meet anyone on the bank I always push this web site on them even giving them the web site address and explain to them what we do and talk about on this forum. So far I don't think anyone has botherd to visit the site as I always tell they'll to message me. It is a real shame that this site is not as busy as it should be especialy at this time of the season. I'm my view if I can't go fishing then talking about fishing is the next best thing.
Maybe it is appathy or more likely it is that most anglers think that there is always some one else will be about to solve the problems of bank access, fish stock etc. But who would be the biggest complainers when our fishing rights are lost. Those who do nothing, they are always the first to complain.

Well, Clwydspecial, according to the EA, 25,000 salmon licences in England and Wales, plus about 8,000 short term, day or weekly tickets, no details for Wales only. I know that many anglers fail to buy salmon licences as a protest at lack of enforcement etc and just buy the trout license.

I don't see this as persuading people to sign this petition for what it stands for, rather signing it to let the Welsh Government know that we are here and willing to protest etc if they "push" too far.

Angling is important to the revenue of Wales and anglers do much to look after the environment in Wales: look at teh make up of much of the Rivers Trusts.

In my view, this is a chance to let them know we care and can speak up; if we don't they will understandably assume that we willingly accept the current "goings on".

Please sign and encourage others to do so. Only 548 at present!

    Hi Chaps,

Just to let you know that at the time of typing this, there have been only 565 signatures added to this petition.

    https://www.assembly.wales/en/gethom...PetitionID=955

This sends completely the wrong message to the Welsh Government and NRW, they will think we just don't care and the next step may well be banning salmon and sea trout fishing in Wales. No, I don't think I am scaremongering: they did it in Ireland. Please take a minute to sign the petition. Does anybody have the email address of the guy that started the petition please?

    PLEASE SIGN

It will also be a big help it you email this link to your pals who don't use this forum, or ask your club secretary to send out a note to all cub members.

Rocketed up to 653, impossible to describe that as a jump of 26 in the last month: more a sigh!

There will be uproar when they make C&R compulsory, or even stop fishing on some rivers, as they did in Ireland.

    I'm depressed!
